Description:
Possum Valley is situated on 156 acres of rainforest with small clearings around the homestead and visitors cottages, which adjoins the world heritage listed rainforest on 2 sides. The cottages consist of two houses built from old rainforest timbers. Other structures on the property are the owner’s house, a games room, a wood fired sauna and an outdoor gazebo over the creek. Three dams and the creek are the habitat for Platypus and other wildlife. One of the interesting animals and the largest is the Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroo. It has a very restricted range in rainforest above 700m. It is nocturnal but mostly seen roosting in trees during the day. There are 7 species of possum likely to be seen at Possum Valley. In the nearby region around Ravenshoe, there are 7 more making this area the possum capital of Australia.
