Description:
The track currently uses section cars and starts from Herberton Station and travels roughly parallel to the Wild River. It crosses the main highway by way of a tunnel under Grace Street Herberton. A few hundred meters further on a bridge enables the crossing of Prospectors Gully where the first tin ore was found. From here on it passes through sclerophyll forest while travelling through cuttings and across another gully. The ride ends at the Historic Village Herberton. When the steam locomotive and passenger car have been fully restored, they will replace the section cars and the ride will be extended to Carrington Falls, a spectacular feature at the top of the range, Queensland’s highest altitude railway tunnel, before the descent to Wongabel and Atherton. Eventually the ride will finish at the Atherton railway station at Platypus Park.
