Description:
Great Keppel Island (Indigenous names: Woppaburra, Wop-Pa, Wapparaburra) lies 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the coast off Yeppoon, Queensland. The Darumbal people are the traditional owners of the island. The island is surrounded by 27 kilometres (17 mi) of beaches, as well as extensive coral reefs. There are no high-rise resorts on the island. Great Keppel Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is served by ferries. Red Beach is a small cove considered accessible only by boat and is unique for its red clay cliffs adorned with a thick growth of boobyalla.
