Australia produces some of the highest quality cotton in the world (equal with Egypt), with 40% of the national crop produced in Queensland. Dalby is a centre for cotton growing with two cotton gins (cotton processing plants). Growing on plants which stand up to 1m tall, the growing cycle starts with pink and cream flowers, which once pollinated are replaced with a white cotton ball. Cotton is sown in spring (Sept-Nov), grown over the summer months (Dec-Feb), and harvested into bales over autumn (March-May).
