The Redcliffe Jetty has been considered the heart of the Peninsula ever since ships carrying holiday makers started arriving in the late 1800s. The current Redcliffe Jetty which entered construction in 1995, jutting out over Moreton Bay from what was once the 1930’s bathing pavilion, opened to the public in 1999. Today the current Jetty features heritage lights, seats and drinking fountains in recognition of the two previous structures. Its concrete deck also has a railway track motif along its length. Railway tracks were an important feature of the first two jetties and were used to move cargo between the head of the jetty and Redcliffe’s main street. Redcliffe Jetty is also home to the whale watching vessel 'Eye Spy'. This cruiser is often docked at the far end of the jetty, but when the annual whale season commences (from June until October), she is out on the Moreton Bay waters. The pavilion on Redcliffe Jetty has picnic tables and seating, and information about the history of Redcliffe Jetty is shown as well. The pavilion is a wonderful spot to catch the breeze and look back towards the shoreline at Redcliffe or across Moreton Bay towards the islands.
