Description:
The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) in Townsville is a government facility for the research of marine environments. It is adjacent to the centre of the Great Barrier Reef and is surrounded by 207 hectares of national park and marine reserve. The area is free from development, biosecure, and offers access to clean seawater and a protected harbour. There are three separate areas: the main research section, the jetty and harbour, and the beach. The jetty area is particularly interesting as it offers deep water in a sheltered bay. The Institute has a large range of scientific equipment and facilities including laboratories, a library, and research vessels. Official guests may be allowed to use the on-site accommodation. Located 1402km (16 h 16 min) from Village Roadshow Studios. The nearest airport is Townsville Airport (TSV). Flights take approximately two hours from Brisbane Airport. Brisbane City is the closest POH, and it is 1340km (15h 50 min) away.
