Location ID: #10247481
Canungra, a rural town, is 25 km inland from Surfers Paradise and 65 km south of central Brisbane. It is situated on Canungra Creek (a tributary of the Albert River), in the foothills of the McPherson Range. The name 'Canungra' is thought to derive from an Aboriginal expression describing a small owl. The small township of Canungra is set amongst the mountains, valleys and countryside of the Scenic Rim region. The town is a popular rest stop for drivers who pass through the region, taking on the mountain roads. One popular destination is the Canungra Hotel, a large farmhouse/barn style building, an odd juxtaposition against the surrounding community, styled as Neo Tudor. A feature of the town is the small memorial park and an abandoned railway tunnel in the hills nearby. The small township is surrounded by farms, vineyards and a military base. Located 26.7km (16.5 miles/ 25 mins) from Village Roadshow Studios. The nearest airport is Brisbane Airport (BNE). The closest POH, Brisbane City, is 32.5km (20 miles/ 40mins) away.
