Samuel Dansie Park was established in 1897 and was used until 1927 when it was closed due to the wet conditions. The area became overgrown and neglected until volunteer Sam Dansie took a special interest, cleaned, restored and catalogued the contents of the cemetery in 1989, hence the renaming of the cemetery in his honour.
