Herberton is an old tin mining township with the Wild River taking its course through town. In its heyday, Herberton was the richest tin mining field in Australia. There is a railway museum established by volunteers with a rail motor taking passengers to the Herberton Historic Village. Rail restoration is actively taking place in the rail museum area with a view to opening the line for the journey of 20 kms to Atherton in the future.
