On the corner of The Strand and Wickham Street is the picturesque Anzac Memorial Park and a stretch of historical, heritage-listed buildings. Some of the more noteworthy buildings include the former Townsville Customs House and the Townsville State Government Offices which display an old-style brick design. Both streets provide two lanes going in both directions. There is a traffic island in the middle of the T intersection, preventing cars from driving the whole way through from east to west on the Strand. With the park, the Breakwater Marina and the beach so close by, this intersection is very popular with tourists.
