Built 1886, St Matthew's Church is located on the highest ground in Drayton, the grounds also containing a free standing bell tower and timber hall. The church was heritage listed in 1992. The bluestone church with corrugated iron roof is surrounded by palm trees and a low wall has been constructed at the front in the same bluestone as the church walls.

Drayton is located at the outer southwestern edge of Toowoomba. Drayton has a large number of homes dating to the 19th century and a substantial number of homes and commercial premises dating from the mid years of the 20th century. More recently a large number of detached homes and growing numbers of multi-unit dwellings were built in the 1990s and 2000s, mostly targeted at students from the nearby University.
