Cairns Region - Ellis Beach
Australia / Palm Cove, Queensland
Location ID: #10067892
Ellis Beach, situated in Tropical North Queensland, is long and thin and stretches on for about five kilometres. There is very little swell or surf here because of the rocky outcrop at the southern end and the large Double Island that blocks the sea. It has been praised as the place where World heritage rainforest meets The Great Barrier Reef. This beach is totally undeveloped and few people visit it. Ellis Beach Surf Lifesaving Club regularly host competitions and events at Ellis Beach, even during November and May when stinger nets must be put in place to prevent marine “stingers” (jellyfish) from latching onto swimmers. Ellis Beach is also known for the pumice stones which can be seen along its stunning shores, and for featuring on Season Four of the Amazing Race.
Ellis Beach lies on the Coral Sea and is located on the northern side of a rocky outcrop that separates it from the bustling Palm Cove. The nearest airport is Cairns Airport (CNS) and if flying from Brisbane, the journey will take approximately 2 hours. The closest POH, Brisbane City, is 1863km (1157 miles/ 21 h 44 mins). Ellis beach is 1791km (1112.9 miles/ 21hrs 1 minute) away from the Village Roadshow Studios.
