Great Keppel Island (Indigenous names: Woppaburra, Wop-Pa, Wapparaburra) lies 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the coast off Yeppoon, Queensland. The island is the largest of the eighteen islands in the Keppel Group, and covers an area of 1308 hectares. There are 17 white sandy beaches with some of the highest cover of hard coral reefs on the Great Barrier Reef. The coral diversity of these reefs matches that of the Whitsundays with clear waters most of the year around. Great Keppel Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Butterfish Bay is the most northern Beach on the western side of Great Keppel Island. Flanked by rocky outcrops and backed by large sand hills. It's a serene and secluded spot with great views on the headland at either side of the beach.
